Craftsmanship
We celebrate craftsmanship by supporting small, family-run businesses that embrace traditional techniques. From the artistry of hand block-printing to the precision of the final seams, a slow and sustainable approach fosters a meaningful connection between the artisan and their craft.
All of our fabrics are hand block-printed in Sanganer, India, a timeless technique that holds historical significance in Rajasthan. Our artisans come from the Chhipa caste, a community celebrated for their rich heritage in dyeing and printing textiles in India for over 700 years. The intricate designs reflect skills passed down through generations, requiring exceptional attention to detail and patience.
-
The process begins with artisans tracing the design and carving it into wooden blocks using small chisels. Once the design is carved, the blocks are soaked in mustard oil for 10-15 days to nourish it.
-
Colour sampling is carried out to achieve the perfect shades and sample new block designs. Artisans then carefully combine different dyes to achieve a specific shade. Before applying the mixed dyes to fabric, small swatches are tested to ensure the colour looks as expected once dried.
During the monsoon season, increased moisture in the air can cause the dyes to spread. Artisans understand the impacts of the weather and know their craft inside and out, allowing them to adjust their techniques as needed.
-
Once fabric is pre-washed and. colour sampling is finalised, printing begins. Wooden blocks are aligned with precision onto the fabric to create a seamless pattern. Different blocks are used for different colours within the design. This process may require 4-5 blocks for a single pattern, with each block representing a different element or colour.

Every Stitch Tells a Story
Once the printing process is complete, the fabric is carefully crafted into its new form by a small team of artisans. We value small-scale, slow production, fostering meaningful connections with our colleagues and allowing them to take their time at each step of the process.
Through traditional handmade techniques, we promote sustainable practices and uplift artisans and their communities. Each piece carries meaning, honouring the stories of our artisans while celebrating the beauty of India.
